Hall of Fame Induction
Mar 23, 2014
On Sunday 9th March 2014, I was very honored and humbled to be inducted into the Australian Racing Hall of Fame, at a function at the National Gallery in Canberra.
I was one of 2 trainers who was inducted, the other being Frank Dalton (who trained many years ago), and it is a wonderful feeling to be able to personally accept the award.
The award was presented to me by long time friend John Hawkes, who himself is a member of the Australian Racing Hall of Fame.
It was great to have the family with me - my wife Pam, and daughters Christine and Sue who were invited on stage to join the presentation.
Obviously Pam and the girls have been of great support to me throughout my career. Unfortunately their husbands, Terry McAuliffe and Andrew Gluyas could not be there because of commitments in Adelaide for the Adelaide Cup long weekend. Andrew does a terrific job for me as co-trainer and has been an outstanding support. Terry who is the voice of racing in South Australia also does plenty of behind the scenes work, for which I am very grateful.
Special thanks to stable clients who travelled to Canberra to help celebrate the occasion with me - Harry Perks & Annie Clough, Noel & Pauline Nietz, Ron & Jocelyn Lehman, David & Lisa Rasheed, Stephen & Sarah Watts, Ken & Barbara Cock and long time family friends Jacqui & Steve Mason and Ann & Gerry Tonkin. I really appreciate their ongoing support.
It was a terrific night and it was great to see many racing faces from all over Australia - both old and new!
Prestigious Awards like these don't come along very often, and while it was a very proud moment for me, it has reinforced my determination to be a success in an industry that has given me so much pleasure!
