Jul 31, 2012
Here it is July with the 2011-12 racing season drawn to a close. Although still in the midst of winter with wet and often uneven surfaces impacting upon results, we are noticing the days slowly but surely getting longer and this tells us that spring is not far away. With less than average runners throughout July stable success was light on as well
July Racing Star: Tsarina Wonder
Tsarina Wonder is the stable star for July. First up from a break on July 4th she saluted the judge at Murray Bridge. This was followed up with an impressive three and a half length victory in the last SA metropolitan race for the 2011-12 season. Although not the best track worker in the stable she certainly knows how to knuckle down to the task on race days and is now developing an impressive record of achievements.
Snip’n’Run Returns to Winners List
Snip’n’Run in his second run back from a spell returned to the winners’ list at Morphettville on July 21st. Clare Lindop with an intelligent and aggressive ride found the best part of the track to sit just behind the leading bunch, to dash clear 300 metres from home. Snip’n’Run dug deep to hold off a late challenge to the line
End of Season Wrap
The 2011-12 season has been a good one for the stable highlighted by the Group 1 win of the very well performed mare Southern Speed in the prestigious and time honoured Caulfield Cup. This was followed by a first up autumn win in the 1400m listed John Dillon Stakes lumping 60kg, before flying home to run second to the champion Black Caviar in the Group 1 C. F. Orr Stakes (1400m). In the Group 1 Australian Cup she was beaten by the shortest of margins to the English import Manighar.
In a flying visit to Launceston in early January Moving Money was successful in bringing home the bacon with a win in the Listed Tasmanian Guineas (1600m).
The stable completed the season with 26 Adelaide metropolitan winners (finishing equal second) and 17 provincial winners. We thank our owners for their continuing support as we work towards even greater success in the coming racing year. It would be remiss of us to not recognise the hard work by our loyal staff throughout 2011-12.
Spring is in the Air
Things are certainly hotting up around the stable with several horses back in work with targets over the spring/summer period. These include the champion mare Southern Speed.
Some of the early maturing two year olds are now in full training for either a tilt at some of the early two-year old races or education for racing later in the season. We look forward to many of our nicely bred youngster performing well in 2012-13.
